Louisiana’s Infant Mortality Rank Among Nations

Earlier this month our blog posted an article titled, “Infant Mortality: Louisiana Lags Latvia“. The chart below ranks countries and Louisiana on infant mortality during 2016 as reported by American Health Rankings using Center for Disease Control’s National Vital Statistics System data and the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency’s World Fact Book.

The number to the right of each country’s bar is that country’s infant mortality rate. Infant mortality rate is the number of deaths of babies under one year old in a given year per 1,000 live births in that year. The smaller a nation’s infant mortality number, the better. For example, Japan’s rate of 2 means 2 babies out of 1000 did not survive to their first birthdays. Louisiana’s rate of 8.1 indicates 8.1 out of 1000 (or 1 out of 123) babies did not survive to their first birthdays.

Did you miss Louisiana on the list? It’s there. Right there at the bottom.
